Sensitivity, an asset and a liability, read on . . .

From Baltimore:
Because of privacy purposes, I'm not able to share the exact screenshots of this conversation. But, I have been granted permission to share the contents of this "fiery" conversation! Sure, to the outside world, I might seem intelligent, creative, and passionate, but there's a very sensitive side to me that only my family knows how to reveal:
Exhibit A:

I just thought of a quote that I think we would all be wise to heed. You're welcome in advance:
"If you have a resentment, you must let it dissipate...like a fart"

pla·gia·rize/ˈplājəˌrīz/

Verb:
  1. Take (the work or an idea of someone else) and pass it off as one's own.
  2. Copy from (someone) in such a way.
Sent from my iPhone

It doesn't have to be in print to be plagiarized. Bottom line you don't put your name/take credit for something you didn't do. I have a blog to express my original ideas on a topic, when I use other people's ideas I give them credit. I'm amazed that I have to explain this to you. Don't read my blog if you feel compelled to proliferate my ideas with your name, it's just weird--totally a compliment because I respect you, but still weird that you think it's okay.

New Membership Drive

The New Membership Drive is underway, along with the 10 Minute Play Festival submissions.
Fall may seem a quite time for TST performance wise, but lots of pre-production going as we gear up for 2012.

Here's the info on Membership Submission.

The Award-winning and critically acclaimed Towne Street Theatre,
now in its 18th year, is looking to expand our core family of artists...

Our mission is creating and affecting social change in a positive way through our varied creative endeavors. TST produces mainstage shows (both original and published), a ten-minute play festival, youth productions; staged readings of plays, screenplays and novels; spoken word nights, touring shows, and more.

Being a TST member gives you a creative home that is nurturing, familial, mentoring and supportive of the individual creative evolution. Privileges of membership are an opportunity to create new work, explore opportunities in various areas, priority in casting, writing, directing, and design, workshops, classes, talent referrals, expanded online profiles, etc.

We are particularly interested in the hybrid talent amongst us and are seeking those with a diverse training background and an interest in multi-disciplinary theater, film, literary and visual artwork. We are looking for actors, technicians, directors, producers, writers, designers, stage managers, and visual and spoken word artists who thrive in multiple areas. For example, do you know how to design a postcard, build a set, hang lights? Do you have skills in film-making, event planning, fundraising, etc. If you submit, be sure to share these things with us.

All the various skills of our members are folded into our company. We are a community dedicated to creating, refining, and exercising our company aesthetic and producing dynamic productions with layered resonance.

Please view our website at www.townestreet.org before submitting so you can have a better understanding of our company and our work.

Although our primary mission is creating, producing and presenting work that is reflective of the African-American experience, we live in and seek a diverse community of artists, as our work and lives intersect with all cultures. ALL ethnicities and ages 18 and up are welcomed and encouraged to submit.

Summer almost over ...

Its hard to believe that summer is almost over.  Even in California, I tend to think of summer ending in August - although it never ends!! That Detroit background sticks!

It was a great summer - full of activity - the Virtural Tea , PassingSOLO in Detroit and of course TST GLEE - our 13th TST Kids Camp. The show was amazing as always and I have my great TST team to thank for that - Nancy Renee, Forrest Gardner, Nathaniel Bellamy, Tony Robinson and Sarah Bauer.  They are amazing artists who can do anything!

After the NAACP awards on August 29Stay tuned for the Fall news - - all best wishes for well deserved wins from our fab show - Langston & Nicolas to Nancy Renee,(costumes and choreography) Nathaniel Bellamy (lighting), Justin Alston and Ana Maria Lagasca (best supporting actor and actress).  Those who saw it know it was deserving of many more - but we are attitude gratitude for what was received.

Until next time - Enjoy!
